So, as of the the first of January, the boy and I have been on a gluten-free, sugar-free, bread/crackers/pancakes/everything delicious Paleo challenge. And I think that is the most annoying sentence I have ever written.
So, I’m that girl now. The most agitating part is not, surprisingly, the lack of grilled cheese and hashbrown casserole in my life, but explaining to people that I’m “dieting”. Blah, blah another diet rant from a girl with nothing better to think about looking like a stick figure. Aside from the cliche’s, I feel so goddamn good lately it’s insane. (Here’s where I start to sound like an advertisement.) I have so much energy. I actually want to do my yoga dvd’s. I rarely get hangovers anymore. My stomach and I get along much better.
How the girl who hates dieting, is dieting: The boy’s mom convinced us all to do the Paleo challenge by buying us basically a month’s worth of food. No grocery shopping for a month and you have planned recipes for me? Sold. We have to read up on the living Paleo (it’s technically not a diet, but a lifestyle) everyday and the more informed I am about how the U.S. has confused us about what is actually good for us, it motivates me to be even better. The majority of the food found down the aisles of Schnucks, WalMart, and Kroger is chalk full of ingredients we have been told over and over are healthy and in reality are terrible for your body. I really thought it was all horseshit until I broke down and actually tried it. (Trust me, I almost threw a fit when I was told I couldn’t have Kraft macaroni and cheese.) Turns out, I’m pretty ok with being somewhat of a health nut. It feels nothing like I ever thought dieting would. I have resolved to stop being such a jerk to my body.
